Dr. Huy D. Huynh

After living with brain cancer for 24 months, Huy D. Huynh, 33, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at his home in Lakeland, FL. He was a great son, brother, fiancé, and true friend to many.

He attended the University of Florida and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Nutrition, a Master's degree in Food Science, and a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.During his time at UF, Huy was a trailblazing leader who was heavily involved with every facet of student life. He held high office in Student Government, served as a Presidential Host with the Florida Cicerones, was inducted into Florida's Hall of Fame, was the first Vietnamese-American tapped into Florida Blue Key, served in various roles within the Asian American Student Association as well as the Filipino Student Association, and was a founding brother of Pi Delta Psi’s Sigma Chapter – the first Asian American Fraternity in the State of Florida.

At his College of Dentistry White Coat Ceremony, Huy quoted: “Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he sees all day.” Indeed, Huy’s endearing smile and infectious personality brought an unlimited amount of joy to everyone he met. He selflessly impacted the lives of many, as both a mentor and inspiration. This endowment will ensure that Huy’s legacy continues to inspire future leaders at the University of Florida.
